It’s hard to believe that it’s half term already, and many families will be going away for a well earned break. However, this year, things are a little different! Instead of jetting off to sunnier climates, many of us are opting to stay local instead.
Staycation is the buzz word this year and whilst it’s great to go and discover what the UK has to offer, please don’t neglect what wonderful things there are to do in your local area too.
Tenterden and the local area has so much to offer, so we have put together a list of what is going on locally over half term for families. If you are staying at home this half term, or visiting us for a few days, we hope you will enjoy discovering what’s on in Tenterden and the surrounding area:

Kent & East Sussex Railway
Travel through history on our very own light railway. The locomotives and carriages have been beautifully restored to their original splendour. Depart from the Art Deco station at Tenterden and be carried through the breath-taking Wealden countryside out to Bodiam.
The railway is currently operating a takeaway snack service only.
New for half term
The railway is a haven for wildlife, being a non-pedestrian corridor through the valley and we’re encouraging our visitors young (and young at heart!) to learn more about the wildlife they can see from the train. Families in half term will receive a spotter sheet and a guide to the railway line along with details of our most commonly seen birds and animals. There are online links for the whole family to learn more about each type of creature and their habits and habitats. Children who have completed the trail will be awarded a certificate and sticker as “Nature Detectives” on the day.
